Like many of the creative enterprises in the Cathedral Quarter, the Catalyst Arts home looks small and unassuming from the outside. But when you walk up the narrow staircase, you're brought into a spacious area that's organised by a changing management group of  seven practising artists, who put on film nights, exhibitions, an occasional radio station and off-the-wall readings. Four years into its creation and the gallery has already attracted many international artists, as well as showcasing the indigenous talent of its 200 members. The origins of the group goes back to the MA Fine Art course at University of Ulster, 1991-2. In the wake of initiatives such as the rolling 'On The Buses' concept, the group is well known across Ireland and the UK.

The Community Arts Forum came into being in 1993. Back then, it represented ten groups. Now it is allied to more than 154 collective efforts across Northern Ireland. Joan Reid, the Information Officer, sees the Forum's role as "creating greater access to the arts for all... we're a network organisation, set up to promote the community arts".  These activities cover the following pursuits: drama, dance, music, film, video, visual arts, circus and photography
